Increasing Agility in Six Phases: As the Economic Landscape Adapts Post Crisis, so Will Businesses
“The immediate reaction or response to a situation sets the stage for how a situation is handled. Research has shown that companies with agile practices worked into their business models have ranked highest on managing the impact of the COVID-19 crisis. (Handscomb, 2020).
The response needs to be conducted in phases. Phase 1 is research. It is imperative that all executives arm themselves with the knowledge and the wherewithal of how to move forward in a crisis situation. As a change management and business process consulting firm, Connections 4 Success has been in a fortunate position to hear many stories about the agility needed for organizations to survive the COVID-19 health and economic disruption. We started off by reaching out to our professional community, looking for ways to help. As we learned more about the challenges faced by executive leaders across multiple industries, we launched our first Executive Roundtable session in April 2020 to bring organizational leaders together to discuss their challenges and exchange best-practices for survival and recovery.
It became apparent to us that there was still more need for a comprehensive solution to help organizations successfully navigate a crisis situation. Inspired by the shared experiences during April’s Executive Roundtable conversations, we launched our Industry Insights Interviews to get specific details in a safe, one-on-one setting of how corporate, small businesses, and public entities were handling operations during the pandemic and to learn where they were still struggling. Our Industry Insights interviews were held with executive leaders from manufacturing, construction, transportation, public sector, healthcare and social assistance, service providing, financial and insurance, information technology, and education. The executive leaders we spoke with graciously told their stories of creative thinking, projecting, strategic development, and survival during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and their future plans for the future as they recover and transition back into sustainability.
Throughout our exploration, the one Executive Roundtable session launched into a series conducted monthly to bring together executive leaders from multiple industries to discuss best practices and issues still causing levels of uncertainty during the pandemic and economic crisis.
By combining our experience and knowledge of proven operational practices with data collected from interviews through our Industry Insights Interviews, leading research, and the Executive Roundtable Series, we were able to determine and devise six stages to handling a crisis. Our latest white paper, Increasing Agility in Six Phases: As the Economic Landscape Adapts Post Crisis, so Will Businesses, features what we refer to as the 6 “R”’s to crisis management”
- Response
- Reposition
- Resilience
- Recognition
- Reimagine
- Revitalize
